“Spasms cannot be controlled”: Celine Dion battles a serious illness

The Canadian singer continues to battle muscular stiffness syndrome. Celine Dion’s condition was disclosed by her sister.

The five-time Grammy award winner is suffering from an incurable illness. Last year, Celine was diagnosed with muscular stiffness syndrome, which at times turns the singer’s body into a ‘living statue.’ Patients with this diagnosis may lose the ability to speak and walk.

The 55-year-old pop star canceled her world concert tour due to health issues. Dion is currently at home in Las Vegas under the care of doctors, a sports therapist, her sister Linda, and her husband. Celine’s older sister, Claudette, provided an update on her condition. According to her, the artist is determined to overcome the illness. ‘She’s doing everything she can to get better. She’s a strong woman,’ explained the elder Dion.

The performer of the hit ‘My Heart Will Go On’ has to endure excruciating pain attacks that are nearly impossible to manage. ‘We know so little about this disease. Spasms occur – they are uncontrollable. You know how people jump out of bed at night because of a leg or calf cramp. It’s somewhat like that, only in all the muscles. There’s not much we can do to support her, to ease the pain… We’re keeping our fingers crossed for researchers to find a cure for this terrible disease,’ Claudette quoted as saying in her interview, according to People.

The artist’s sister speculated that the cause of Celine’s illness was her hectic work schedule. According to Claudette, the performer is always stressed due to her desire to be the best, which triggered a breakdown in her body.
