More than 400 teenagers gathered outside the home of 88-year-old Canadian Tinny Davidson. They held placards: “We love you, Mrs Davidson”, “Thank you, you’re awesome!”
Tinny and her husband Ken moved into their home in Comox, British Columbia, in 2007. The road to the high school passed by the house.
“I liked the look of the kids, they were looking out my windows and I thought, why not wave, so that’s how it started.” Every day, Tinny and her husband, smiling, greeted as teenagers passed by. When her husband died, the woman continued the tradition.
In 2014, dozens of students gathered outside Tinny’s house on Valentine’s Day. They thanked her for making them smile every day.
On Valentine’s Day 2016, more than 70 students gathered to decorate Tinny’s yard with hearts that they made with their own hands. They gave her cards and presents.
Twelve years after the children’s first greeting, 400 students came to Tinny’s house as she was about to move into an old people’s center. Tinny sat on the porch of her house and could hardly contain her tears as she waved to everyone for the last time. “I’m just overwhelmed that so many children want to say goodbye to me,” Tinney said.
