What the fire brigade wrote in a note to the house owner

This story took place during the severe fires in Australia in 2019. Paul Sekfy from New South Wales returned home when the fire was extinguished and found a note from the firefighters.

The man shared a picture on Facebook of a note he called one of the best he had ever seen. In it, firefighters informed the homeowner that they had drunk milk from his fridge.

Firefighter Cale Hardy-Porter responded to Paul Sekfi’s post. “Our team of four did their best. But your two barns didn’t last a second. We were glad we managed to save your house. We went into the house briefly and saw the refrigerator.” Cale apologized for the milk they’d drunk. “I was writing in the dark, that’s why the handwriting is so sloppy,” he added and wished the landlord well.

At the time this story took place, the firestorm in the northeastern part of the state had claimed the lives of three people. More than 150 houses were destroyed. The fire covered an area of about 10,000 square kilometres.
