What surprised a woman when doctors showed her newborn babies

Judith Nwokocha from Calgary has been unable to get pregnant for eight years. In 2016, she underwent two IVF procedures and doctors said there would be twins.

During a check-up at 37 weeks’ gestation, the doctor told Judith that one of the twins had stopped developing. She was admitted to hospital and contractions soon began. The woman was rushed to a caesarean section. Baby Kasmi was born weighing 2kg 700g, and baby Kachi 1kg 500g. Unlike her black brother, the girl was white. When Judith saw her daughter, she was surprised: “I thought I had been given someone else’s baby and I couldn’t believe it was my daughter. How could I, a black woman, have a white daughter?” – Judith recalls.

A few days after the twins were born, the doctors told Judith that her daughter had albinism. Judith was worried about her daughter’s possible health problems and her social adjustment. Her worries were in vain: the girl was developing normally.

Judith decided to show off the beauty of albinism. The young mother often takes pictures of her baby girl with her twin brother. “I always tell my daughter that she is beautiful. She really is beautiful. I’m not sure if my daughter is aware of her uniqueness right now. But eventually she will understand, and it’s my responsibility to nurture her and teach her to accept herself for who she is,” Judith revealed.
