HOW THE EDUCATOR SUPPORTED A GIRL WITH AUTISM

Kenley, a fourth-class student in Alvin, is autistic. When she got to the canteen, she felt uncomfortable with the noise. She lay down and covered herself with a blanket.

Esther McCool, the tutor, understanding the child’s condition, lay down beside her and patted her on the back soothingly.

The girl’s mum was shocked by this act of kindness and she shared a picture of the moment on social media. “Kenley adores Esther. She always greets my daughter with kind words and hugs, which is very important for a child,” the mother shared.

“It shows that a kind word, a hug and a little compassion is what it takes to make a difference in a child’s life,” is the comment on the photo left on the school’s website.
