A woman carried four children from a fire

Mikala Vish of Michigan rescued her children aged 12, 6, 4 and 9 months during a house fire.

The brave mother received second and third degree burns of 60% of her body. One of her sons’ hands were burned, the other children were unharmed. The woman and her son were taken to a burn centre and underwent skin graft surgery. Doctors say she will be in hospital for eight months.

Mikala Vish’s mother, said she was not surprised by her daughter’s act. “My daughter is a person of faith and it gave her strength as she searched for her six-year-old son in the burning house. I am sure she will make it,” she said.

Firefighter Derek Klink was at the scene of the fire. He said:

“Sometimes people call us heroes. But in this case, the heroes were not us, but the woman who saved the children.”

The firefighter’s wife, after hearing about the incident, set up a page on the GoFundMe platform to raise funds for the Vish family. She wrote that she and her husband were touched by the incident because their children are the same age as Mikala’s children. Twenty days after the fire, the account received $270,000.
