A father who has cancer has written 826 notes on napkins for his daughter’s future lunches.

Emma Claire Callaghan, a 14-year-old, receives a thoughtful reminder of her father’s love every day during lunchtime. Garth Callaghan, her father, has been writing notes on napkins for her for years, and it became his passion when Emma was in the third grade. However, in November of the previous year, he took it up a notch. Callaghan committed to writing 826 notes for Emma, one for every day until she graduates from high school. He was inspired by a social movement called “Because I Said I Would,” which aims to improve humanity through promises. But the notes are also significant to him for personal reasons. Some of his favorite notes are available for viewing below.

This is Garth, Emma’s dad. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer and knew his days would be short-lived.

Despite the possibility of his own death, Garth has made a commitment to ensure that Emma receives a special note with her lunch every day of class until she completes high school. This is his promise to her, and he intends to keep it regardless of his circumstances.

As of now, Garth has finished writing 740 notes, leaving only 86 more to complete his commitment of 826 notes for Emma.

He has been writing napkin notes for Emma’s lunch box since she was in the third grade.

The notes Garth writes for Emma are brief but filled with words of support, offering a chance for them to connect during their busy days at work and school.

It’s a moment when Garth knows she is thinking about him.
And it’s a moment when Emma knows her dad is thinking about her.
Each and every note is carefully thought out, giving Emma the encouragement that is needed sometimes to make it through her day.
I’m sure this note brought some tears to Emma’s eyes in the middle of lunchtime.
They are really lucky to have each other.
This man’s dedication to being a great father to his daughter is truly inspiring. Emma will cherish these notes for the rest of her life as a perfect memento to keep her father’s guidance and humor alive. Losing a parent, particularly to a terrible disease like cancer, is a difficult experience, but these little notes on napkins will undoubtedly serve as a constant reminder to Emma of how much her amazing father loves her.
