This story took place in 2016 in Baltimore. When a house fire broke out, 8-month-old Vivian was on the second floor. “I could hear my daughter crying and couldn’t get to her,” the girl’s mother recalled. “Although the doors and windows were broken out, no one could save her until the fire brigade arrived.”
Arriving firefighters entered the girl’s room and saw the dog covering the child, protecting her from the fire. “Polo’s side was badly burned. The dog stayed with the child, even though he could have escaped downstairs and out the door,” the girl’s mother said.
Vivian received burns to her face, one arm, and part of her body. But her life was out of danger. Polo could not be saved. He sacrificed himself to save the child.
