Rest in peace: Twins drowned when their grandmother suffering from Alzheimer’s left a door open

Twins, a boy and a girl, drowned after they managed to escape from their home through a door left open by their grandmother, who has Alzheimer’s disease. When Jenny Callazzo, the mother of 18-year-old siblings Locklin and Laurel, found her children in the murky water of the family pool at their Oklahoma City home, they were unconscious. Hours later, they were pronounced dead.
Mrs. Callazzo is a homemaker, raising six children and running a grocery store. Her husband and grandmother also live in the family home.Aerial footage of the house showed a swimming pool filled with dark green water, presumably caused by thick algae.
A few days before the tragedy, the mother posted a picture of her twins playing outside with the caption “I just want to play outside”.Experts warn parents about the dangers of swimming pools in the presence of young children. Laura Gamino, injury prevention coordinator at OU Health, said: “Babies are attracted to water, and toddlers can’t get themselves out of the water.”  Drowning happens very suddenly and very quietly.
