A couple married for 75 years reveals the secret to a strong relationship

Everyone hopes to find a soul mate in their life, someone whose character perfectly matches their own. When you meet someone, you are always trying to figure out if you are a perfect match. When you start a relationship and love even seems to blossom, the same question always comes up: How do you build a stable and long-lasting relationship?

This couple (both one hundred years old) just celebrated 75 years together. A solid relationship that has stood the test of time. That’s why they decided to reveal the secret of their relationship.

In a world where marriage lasts no more than a moment, Josephine and Alfred Waterfield are an exception. They are both 100 years old and have been married for 75 years. She worked in a pub and he was a marine. From the moment Alfred saw Josephine, he knew she would become his wife. In an interview he said that the secret to a long life together was daily arguments, not real quarrels, but petty disagreements.

Their eldest son Allen said: “My parents argue every day, it’s their secret. Just constant bickering, nothing serious. It’s rare these days to find marriages that last that long, so they’ve achieved something positive, and that’s a good thing. There is hope for all of us.”

These 75 years of marriage is an incredible, almost unattainable milestone. So they celebrated in the most beautiful way possible, so much so that their second son Brian, who lives in Perth, travelled from Australia to Northampton, UK, to mark the milestone.

“We always wanted to give them a good party and we found a good time for everyone,” says Allen. “My parents were very happy that Brian and his family could come from Australia. It was a fantastic time. Mum and Dad really enjoyed it. It was a party that exceeded all our expectations. We all enjoyed the day with family and friends.”

What do you think is the real secret to building lasting relationships?
