World War II veteran Doug is 97 years old. And almost every day he comes to the Arby’s Cafe in Arizona.

The cafe staff always opens the door for him and tries to seat him at his favorite table. Usually, Doug orders a roast beef and Swiss cheese sandwich with a Coke. He tells the waiters that such food is good for him.

The cafe employees treat this visitor with respect. “He has been through a lot in his life, and he has no family,” the waitress said.

Once, they made him a special gift. They pooled their money and bought gift cards worth $200 from their own cafe. They presented them to Doug, saying, “We like that you come here for lunch, and we are always happy to see you.”

Doug was surprised and joked, “Thank you. I never know if I’ll be able to come tomorrow, but thank you so much for this.”

One of the cafe visitors witnessed the scene of the gift presentation to the veteran. He shared the story on Facebook with a comment, “This is one of those moments that make you happy. There are so many good people in the world. The cafe staff gave their money so that an elderly person could come and enjoy a lunch that may be his last.”

After the post went viral, the cafe administration decided to give Doug the privilege. Now he could eat for free at the Arby’s Café for the rest of his life.

But the story didn’t end there. A doctor saw the story about Doug on the web. After that, he offered the veteran free eye care services.
