Why did the girl wait 16 days to meet her newborn sister

Courtney from Texas gave birth to baby Charlie prematurely, so the newborn was admitted to the intensive care unit. At home, the baby was eagerly awaited by her older brother and sister.

When Courtney went to the doctor at 34 weeks’ pregnancy, he said the foetus was having heart palpitations. The woman was offered hospitalisation. The next day, doctors said the fetal heartbeat was barely audible and a caesarean section had to be performed. “When an incision was made during the operation, the doctor only touched the uterus and it ruptured. If Charlie and I hadn’t been seen at the hospital, we would both have died,” the woman recalls. As Charlie’s lungs were not fully formed, she was admitted to the intensive care unit.

Eight-year-old Presley Brooks was looking forward to meeting her little sister. After 16 days, Charlie’s condition stabilised and she was brought home. When Presley and her brother returned from school, it was a surprise. Taking her baby sister in her arms, the girl couldn’t hold back tears. “Throughout my pregnancy, my daughter asked me when Charlie was going to be born. And then because of the quarantine she couldn’t visit her at the hospital. We knew she would be excited,” Courtney said.
