What did the woman say when she woke up after 27 years of coma

Munira Abdullah and her son Omar Webair were involved in a car accident in 1991. Munira was 32 at the time and had a four-year-old son in her arms. They were travelling from a kindergarten in Al Ain in the UAE.

As a result of the accident, Munira suffered a head injury and slipped into a coma, the baby was unharmed.

Doctors told the family that Munira would never wake up. They recommended that the victim be moved to a specialised facility in London. There, the family was told that the woman was in a vegetative state but could feel pain. Munira was then transferred again to a hospital in the UAE.

The son has been visiting his mother in hospital all these years. When Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed heard Munira’s story, he paid for her treatment in Germany. The woman underwent several surgeries there. Omar, 32, says: “I always knew she would wake up.”

In Germany, Omar began to notice improvements in his mother’s condition. The doctors said he was wishful thinking. But a year later, in June 2018, Omar told doctors that his mother was making noises. And three days later, Omar woke up to someone calling his name. “I was flying with joy, my name was the first word she said!” – Omar said.

Munira is now conscious, communicating with relatives and often reciting prayers.
