Cashier rudely escorts wealthy woman out over $11, then janitor grabs him by the collar – Story of the Day

A rich woman gets help in an unexpected place when she doesn’t have $11 to pay her grocery store bill and the cashier yells at her.

An elderly cleaning lady comes to the rescue, grabbing the cashier by the collar to stop him, eventually teaching him a lesson.

Maria is an independent woman who owns a cosmetics company. At the same time, she was a single mother with two children, whom she raised alone after the death of her husband Jonathan three months ago.

Jonathan’s death was a blow to Mary, as he had been a great support to her in balancing work and parenting. Eventually she found that she could not balance work and children, so she had to hire a nanny to look after her children, ages 3 and 5.

One day Maria is rushing to work, but since the nanny hasn’t arrived yet, she has to wait. She frantically checks her watch because she has an important meeting that day.

When the nanny arrives, Maria is in such a hurry that she doesn’t even have time to get angry at the woman who is ten minutes late. Usually she was furious because she appreciates time so much.

Maria takes her car keys and handbag and heads straight to her office, telling the babysitter to watch the children. But as she approaches the last traffic light in front of her office, she begins to feel dizzy. She didn’t eat breakfast because she was in a hurry, and she was also on a diet.

Then she decided to go to the nearest store for a snack. Anyway, she was almost at the office. She grabbed some granola bars and a bottle of orange juice and headed for the cash register.

“That’ll be $11!” – informs the cashier, placing her purchases in a plastic bag.

“Oh, okay,” she said, rummaging through her handbag, and only then did she realize that she had left her phone, money, and all her credit cards at home in a hurry.

“Oh no,” she mumbled embarrassedly, realizing she wouldn’t be able to pay for things. “I’m really sorry. I think I left my money and phone at home. My office isn’t far away. Could you put them aside and I’ll send someone to get them?”

The man rolled his eyes and looked Maria over from head to toe. “Why do people go to stores when they don’t have the money to pay? What a waste of time!” – he muttered angrily to himself, pushing Maria’s things away from the counter. He deliberately spoke loudly enough for Maria to hear him.

“Excuse me? You know I can hear you, right?” – She answers irritably. “I just asked you to put things away because I left my wallet at home. I also value the time. So please calm down!”

“You seem to forget that it’s your fault here!” – he shouts, louder this time. “You’re wearing nice clothes and jewelry, and frankly, you don’t have eleven dollars in that huge bag you carry around?” – he notes mockingly, pointing to her handbag. “Customers like you do things like that to get attention! Get the hell out if you can’t afford to buy anything!”

“Excuse me, sir… I don’t know if anyone has told you this, but you are very rude! Keep it to yourself, I don’t need it!” Maria yells angrily and is about to leave when the elderly cleaning lady grabs her arm.

“You’re not leaving, miss!” – she said. “Just a minute!”

The old woman immediately walked over to the cashier and grabbed him by the collar, and everyone in the store froze, perplexed as to why she had done so.

“Mrs. Murphy! What are you doing? Are you out of your mind? I haven’t even said a word to you! Leave my collar!” – Shouted the cashier.

“Now, my boy… Do you like it when I do this to you?” – she asked him stiffly.

“Mrs. Murphy, please!” – he shouted, pushing the employee’s hand away and adjusting his clothes. “Why are you so insulting to me, since I haven’t said anything wrong to you?”

“You’re right, Jeff. You never said anything bad to me. But you only insulted our client because she was unable to pay you! That’s how she felt when you kept laughing at her, despite her promise to ask someone from her office to pay her bill. I heard you when I was cleaning one of the counters, young man. What you did was completely wrong!”

Jeff looked at everyone staring at him and lowered his eyes in humiliation. He experienced guilt and felt awful about people looking at him and some customers whispering terrible things about him.

Maria thanks Mrs. Murphy for her help. “Thank you, Mrs. Murphy. You are so kind!”

“Oh, no problem, dear!” – Mrs. Murphy said. She also paid Maria’s bill, despite Maria’s protests that she was fine.

Leaving the store that day, Maria asked for Mrs. Murphy’s address to visit her and thank her for her kindness. She said: “Thank you very much, Mrs. Murphy!” and headed toward her car.

That weekend, Maria went to Mrs. Murphy’s house with a bag of groceries and fruit. To her surprise, a little girl in a wheelchair opens the door.

“Yes? How can I help you?” – she asks in a thin voice.

“Hi! Does Rosalyn Murphy live here? She gave me this address a few days ago when I met her at the store where she works.”

“Yes, please go ahead,” said the girl, and Maria followed her inside.

Mrs. Murphy came out of the kitchen, washing her hands with a towel. “Oh, my God! It’s you!” She smiled when she saw Maria. She gave her tea and biscuits and thanked her for bringing fruit and groceries.

During their conversation, Maria learns that the girl in the wheelchair is Mrs. Murphy’s granddaughter, Leila, who needs an expensive operation to walk again. Her father, Mrs. Murphy’s son Edward, is working abroad and trying to raise money for his daughter’s surgery.

Concerned for the girl, Maria immediately offers to pay for the treatment. Mrs. Murphy hesitates at first, but relents when Maria insists. “You helped me, Mrs. Murphy, even though I was a stranger. So let me help you, please!”

Hugging her, the older woman cried. “I don’t know how to thank you, my dear! Oh, you are an angel to my Leila!” – she whispered, her eyes filling with tears.

In time, Mrs. Murphy’s family and Maria became close. The elderly woman began to visit Maria’s home and help her with the children. Meanwhile, Edward returns home to his daughter, and Leila’s operation is successfully completed.

Edward is extremely grateful to Maria for her help. He and Maria became good friends at first, but in time they realized that they were in love with each other. They married a year after they started dating, and now Mrs. Murphy is the grandmother of three wonderful children and they have a big happy family.
