After a Waffle House waitress served a customer, her life changed. The customer found out that she was pregnant and expecting a son called Samuel. The name was meaningful to the man and it inspired him to do something about it.
In Stockbridge, Georgia, a young mother received an unexpected act of kindness in 2020. When Bishop Eusebio Phelps walked into Waffle House, neither he nor the waitress Hannah Hill knew what would happen.
The woman served him, and after a short conversation he gave her extra money because he found out she was pregnant. The church leader was touched by the waitress’ behaviour and asked her about the baby.
Phelps’ decision to buy an All-Star meal with extra bacon allowed him to find out more about Hill. She told him that she was eight months pregnant and planning to name her son Samuel.
The name immediately caught Phelps’ attention. Without Hill’s knowledge, her client became interested in her story. The reason was that Phelps had lost his own son seven years earlier.
His son’s name was Samuel, which made him feel a connection with the waitress. He returned home and told his wife about his meeting with Hill.
They decided to raise money for her and the unborn child. Initially they wanted to raise $1,000, but many people rallied to help Hill after the story appeared on the internet.
The waitress was stunned by such generosity. Hill explained, “I fell asleep in the car and my mother-in-law called me and told me I had to go to Waffle House immediately. “When she got to the restaurant, she was handed a cheque.
It was almost $12,000! She was speechless. This kind gesture changed her life and she said:
“Lately, I’ve been praying simply because I’ve been stressed. I thought, ‘I want to have a home before the baby is born’.
The money helped alleviate Hill’s stress and gave her a safety net before the baby was born. Phelps’ church, New Faith Christian Church, also said it would cover the baby’s expenses throughout the year.
Phelps said simply, “She was so sweet and so nice. She’s a real little angel. And it touched my heart. And I feel like God has really allowed our paths to cross.”
One user wrote: “Wow, Pastor. You are an amazing man of God.” For Hill, this chance encounter changed her life and she remains extremely grateful for the kindness.
