The mountaineer conquered Mont Blanc and, at an altitude of 4,800 meters, was surprised to find that an object that looked like a box was visible in the ice. He found precious stones in the rusty box.
The man was interested in the reason why the object appeared at this height and descended to examine the archives.
The mountaineer quickly came to the conclusion that the box had fallen from a plane that had disappeared over the mountains over 50 years ago.
The inscription on the box “Made in India” helped the climber pick up the plane’s trail. According to the archives, an Indian plane actually disappeared over this part of the Alps in 1966.
The man didn’t keep the treasure for himself. As an honorable Frenchman, he took the box to the police.
The local authorities also acted according to the law: for eight years they tried to find the true owner of the jewelry or his relatives.
But they were not found. The authorities of Chamonix (the municipality where Mont Blanc is located) shared his discovery with the climber, in accordance with current rules.
Each received about 150,000 euros, which is 12 million rubles.
The treasure found by the mountaineer excited the public’s enthusiasm. Treasure hunters reached out to Mont Blanc, who also wanted their share of the treasure.
