The largest horse in history was the size of a two-story house: rare photos from 1846

While looking through old archives, historians noticed a very unusual photo of a horse. It’s much larger than a two-story house, and the adult man in the foreground barely reaches his saddle. The photo was taken in June 1846.

The date was very specific – it came from the records of a wealthy farmer whose family had owned the land for over 300 years. The farmer himself knew nothing about this unusual horse, nor was he mentioned in the family records.

However, historians have found another interesting entry in the town hall archives of the nearby town of Toddington Mils in Birdfordshire, UK. He specifies that in 1846 a horse fair took place in the town.

On this occasion there was also a show where the first prize went to Giant. Second prize went to Samson, a Shire gelding who measured 2.30m at the withers and weighed one and a half tonnes.

La vérité sur le plus grand cheval du monde

It turned out that the giant who took first place was even bigger. It was probably his photo that was found in the farmer’s newspapers.

However, the photo itself has raised doubts among some experts. Its authenticity is in doubt.
