A shabby German shepherd walked around town with a toy in its teeth. It was sad and lonely.
In Detroit, people spotted a lonely dog whose only friend was a stuffed, dirty toy. Passers-by posted footage of the dog on social media and the animal was spotted by staff at a local shelter.
The dog was taken to a shelter and named Nikki. It turned out that the dog had been living on the street for months after its owners died. Residents would occasionally feed it.
The vets examined Nikki and found it had a lot of sores: it had to have an operation on its stomach because it had been eating plastic bags and other rubbish it found on the street.
Nikki is now continuing its treatment, its condition is much better and it is happier. The dog has a special diet and has a temporary home.
As soon as Nikki is fully recovered, new owners will be found for it.
