Joe was walking down the streets of Florida when he saw a furry cat strolling slowly down the pavement near his house. Although the cat was walking steadily, Joe noticed that its eyes were closed, which meant that it was navigating its surroundings either by memory or by sound. The man was about to pass by when he saw the cat go to the porch of his house and climb the steps and start eating food from a bowl that belonged to Joe’s cat. Although the animal’s behaviour was insolent, the man decided that he did not want to interfere with the stray’s hunger.

The cat coped with the food at lightning speed, so Joe decided to give the poor creature some more food. While the cat was happily eating the second portion, Joe realised that the animal needed help and that he was the one who could provide it.
Taking advantage of the cat’s love for food, the man put it in a carrier and took it to the vet. After examination, the doctors gave him the good news: the cat’s eyesight had suffered, but with the right treatment, it could be restored. Of course, the cat was also found to have other illnesses common to stray animals.

The treatment was difficult and time-consuming, but when the cat opened its eyes for the first time, Joe realised that his efforts had not been in vain. The cat had heterochromia: one of its eyes was brown and the other was bright blue. It was a rare characteristic for cats, so nobody had expected that a scrawny, mud-covered street cat would turn out to be such an unusual animal. As soon as it saw the world around it, the cat immediately started purring and cuddling up to Joe to show its love and gratitude.
