HOW THE PEOPLE HAVE HELPED A PEOPLE WITH CLIPPED WINGS

A parrot, Wei Wei, was brought to a veterinary clinic in Australia for a check-up. The owner had bought a green-faced parrot and wanted to make sure it was healthy.

The Apuli vet examined the bird. She said that the parrot’s wings were short, so it might be injured trying to fly.

A week later, the woman came to the clinic again and told her that the parrot was falling down and injuring its legs. The vet suggested repairing the damaged feathers. She used feathers with toothpicks attached to them. While the doctor glued them to the wings, the parrot slept.
After the operation, Wei Wei was able to fly.

The vet said that some owners severely clip the wings of exotic birds to keep them from flying away. Cases like Wei Wei’s are common.

The parrot now lives at its owner’s house. She teaches it to fly in on command.
