When I grew up in the countryside, I had to deal with wild animals. Living in the countryside meant that you had to deal with creatures such as coyotes. Coyotes are generally considered nuisance animals, especially in areas where there are farms with livestock. Coyotes are notorious for eating pigs, dogs and cats. Farmers usually kill them when they get the chance, because they can cause real financial damage to a farm. However, coyotes are not so different from dogs, and a coyote named Wylie proves this to the family who rescued it. Check out its story, which has helped it go from abandoned cub to family pet.
This is Wylie the coyote and its best friend Hayley Hanestad. Hayley’s father brought Wylie home a few years ago when it was abandoned and in need of care.
The thought of raising a baby coyote probably wouldn’t intrigue most people, but having lived all their lives on farms, this family didn’t seem to be concerned.
They decided to name the animal Wylie, and soon it became part of the family. Wylie and Hayley even developed a strong friendship and they are now inseparable.
For these two, it was an ordinary relationship with an ordinary dog. They played together, snuggled up to each other and just communicated every day.
Wylie’s diet consists mainly of venison and fried eggs. However, at the moment it has developed a taste for more refined things. It no longer wants to eat raw meat, it needs to be cooked!
The coyote is even bathed, although it seems to hate it.
Hayley’s father takes Wylie for regular outdoor walks. They go for walks almost every day.
They have tried to make an enclosure for Wylie that is as close to its natural home as possible. There are plants and even a burrow around it, just like in a coyote’s natural habitat.
Can you imagine bringing it to school to be shown and told about it?
This is definitely not the type of pet you might think of. However, Wylie seems to have adapted very well to life with humans. Its family also seems to be doing their best to ensure that it still feels like a coyote. The most important thing when keeping such a pet is to create the right environment for it. This family has built an individual enclosure with a burrow for it. Many people don’t do this for their dogs, let alone a coyote!
