A huge tropical fish was found in Oregon

An oversized multi-colored fish was discovered at Sunset Beach, Oregon, in July. State authorities confirmed that this specimen is rare in the area, as such fish are usually found in tropical waters.

Seaside Aquarium staff confirmed the find. The opah, or moonfish, was about one meter in size and weighed 45 kilograms. The Aquarium’s Facebook post said, “Opahs can grow to two meters and weigh more than 270 kilograms. They live in pelagic (that is, open ocean) tropical and temperate waters and feed on krill and squid.”

The fish were kept in the freezer and they plan to use it for educational purposes.

Opahs can dive to depths of up to 400 meters. They are considered warm-blooded animals. Their body temperature does not change depending on the ambient temperature like other fish, amphibians and reptiles.
