It’s not exactly an ordinary sight to see a cute dog going to Mass every day, but Tommy is a very unusual dog. In the small town of San Donacci near Brindisi, Italy, a 7-year-old German shepherd called Tommy goes to Mass almost every day and sits patiently at the altar throughout the church service. All the parishioners know Tommy and accept him at Mass as a regular occurrence. The reason this dog attends church completely breaks my heart. This loving and loyal dog has a very interesting story.
Loyal Tommy, a seven-year-old German shepherd, belonged to 57-year-old Maria Margarita Lochy and was her faithful companion after she adopted him when she found him abandoned in a field near her home.
She saved him when he was a puppy and they formed a bond that only exists with true love, loyalty and friendship.

Miss Lochy passed away several months ago, and Tommy waited patiently for his beloved owner to return.

The church was the last place he saw her when he attended her funeral. The dog now attends church every single day.

He appears just as the bell tolls for morning Mass and waits until the service is over to leave.

Tommy has since been adopted by the whole village and is very well fed and cared for. They know that this is exactly what Miss Lochy would have wanted. He is a community friend and one of the most loyal dogs I have ever heard of. It really breaks my heart and I hope that Tommy can find the peace and love that will eventually heal his broken heart. This really is an example of why dogs are human’s best friends.
