The grocery shop where I work as a security guard has a very good team. The staff has quickly become friends, I like going to work and I spend most of my time here, going home only to rest. One day we got a pet at work, who also became part of the team and was named Buddy.
The dog started appearing outside the shop every evening and standing by the glass doors. The manager forbade us to let the animal inside, so we started taking treats outside for the dog. Every day the dog would come and wait patiently for one of the employees to come out and bring him treats. The dog gladly accepted the food, but in his eyes, we could see the sadness and hope that someone would want to give him a home.
Nobody could take him home with them, including me, because I spent all my day at work. The dog needed time and a walk, and I couldn’t do that. I am at home only after eight in the evening, all the time before going to bed I do household chores.
It took a very long time to find an owner for Buddy, but we were lucky. One of my acquaintances quite unexpectedly wanted to get a dog and agreed to take Buddy. I have known this man for many years and I was sure that he would treat the dog well. Now Buddy has an owner, a warm home and the care that he needed so much.
I like to think that I was able to help both a stray dog and an acquaintance. A good deed doesn’t require much effort, but it gives joy, which is the best reward.
