The 72-year-old owner of the animal fell asleep, leaving the bedside lamp on. The lamp fell on the bed and burned the bed, causing the mattress to catch fire.
A terrier named Barbie began to lick the owner’s face, to which she did not react at first.
However, the animal continued to persistently wake the woman, after which she woke up, noticed the fire, and called the firefighters.
Animal advocates called the case “unheard of.”
They noted the bravery of the animal, which did not run away from the fire, but “overcame its fear” and helped the owner to get away.
