A Labrador rescued a parrot and became its best friend

Viviana Davila of Puerto Rico was resting in the garden, and the Labrador puppy was running nearby. “Hiro found something in the grass and licked it, then looked in my direction. I went over to see what happened,” said Viviana.

There was a bird lying in the grass. Viviana took it to the vet, who said it was the chick of a Quaker parrot. Apparently, it had fallen out of the nest and was paralysed. The vet said he usually suggests sending the bird for euthanasia in such cases. But Viviana suggested trying to save Hope (that’s the parrot’s name).

The girl followed the vet’s advice and after a week and a half the parrot was better. Hiro the dog was always by the chick’s side. “Now there is nothing more important for the dog than to look for Hope,” Viviana said.

A grown-up bird accompanies Hiro everywhere. They are better friends. Viviana says Hope teaches them vitality, endurance and empathy.
